TWILIGHT BLAK MARKETS AT NCIE
THURSDAY 28 NOVEMBER
5PM - 8PM
180 GEORGE ST, REDFERN

Blak Markets back in Redfern for first ever night markets

If you'd like to try Boab Nut Ginger Beer or Crocodile Spring Rolls, then Twilight Blak Markets at National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) on Thursday 28 November is the place for you.

This Blak Markets features Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stallholders from around Australia who are in Sydney for the first National Indigenous Bushfood Symposium.

Twilight Blak Markets is the place to buy authentic unique products, bushfoods, jewellery and gifts, knowing that 100% of the profits go back into communities.

Bush herbs, health bars, and desserts will be on sale, as well as delicious hot food from the NCIE Kitchen. Cooking demonstrations will showcase Indigenous ingredients and flavours.

The legendary Johnny Nicol will provide some cool evening jazz, and Jannawi Dance Clan will present dance, song and stories.

The event will start with a smoking ceremony from Uncle Graham King.

“National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) is proud to host Blak Markets back in Redfern as part of our ongoing support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and social enterprises,” said NCIE’s John Leha.

“We can’t wait to share some of the best of our cultures with locals and visitors alike.”

Twilight Blak Markets will round off a busy two days for First Hand Solutions, the La Perouse-based Indigenous Social Enterprise that runs Blak Markets, as they host the first (and sold out) National Indigenous Bushfood Symposium.

“We are organising the first National Indigenous Bushfood Symposium for Aboriginal people and business and communities to work on protecting cultural IP and knowledge and to ensure they benefit from a booming bushfood, medicinal and botanical business,” said Peter Cooley from First Hand Solutions.

“As it stands today, Aboriginal people represent only 1-2% of a 20 million dollar bushfood business.”

Come and support Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander businesses, see and hear some great music, and grab some delicious food and Xmas pressies!
